The first shop of Coffee Prince (Korean, Drama)

Feels as if someone took all the romance in the world and poured in to a coffee cup and served us.

That is what this show feels like. Romantic love at it's cutest and purest and lovelyest form. For 90% of the show, I had a smile on my face while I watched it and it made me go 'Awww! So sweet'. At the other 10% when the leads are in pain coz of love, it reflected so well to me that even I felt like weeping.
Without any doubt we will surely fall in love with this show. And this is with no doubt one of the best drama ever made.

The drama was called a dating guide, coz it shows everything that a couple would want to do while dating, like visiting places, talking, having fun together, a piggy-back ride, eating ramyun together, car rides, drives, going to ocean visit and then of course the cute kisses and hugs.

Not only romance, it is the perfect combo of friendship too. The 1:1 perfect mix of friendship and love is kind of really something that will keep us tied to the show, and the show and the characters will never go away from our mind even after we finish watching the show. In reality, when I finished watching Coffee Prince, my first feeling was like I lost something valuable to me. A bad feeling that it got finished. I wanted to see more and more. And I felt bad that it got finished.


Love, friendship, fun, and humour all combines to form this show Coffee Prince, and if you fail to watch it, it's surely a loss.

The characters  each and every one of them is so lovable that we will take them to hearts at once. The cuteness of the characters are kind of like out of the world. I can't describe it in words.

The problem of Coffee Prince might be that it sets the bar of romance in our mind so high that we may not feel satisfied with the real happenings in romance area in our daily life not enough. Well, this is not a problem  It is not a bad thing to happen. It's a plus point actually. But really, it do really set the bar of romance really high. It feels unfair that we can't get a romance of that level and intensity in our lives. We start wishing for the level that might be like just a dream. And in my opinion, the people who get that kind of cute innocent but intense and sincere love are really lucky.
Anyway, enough with that.

Technical details : The drama is of 17 episodes and each episode is about 1 hour length.

Characters :

Go Eun-chan : A 24 year old girl who looks like a boy coz of her short hair and dressing style. She never intentionally wish to be mistaken to be a boy, but she is mistaken as a boy and she can't help it, so she thinks 'what the heck' and let it be like that. She is the head of the family since her father died young. She does all the small jobs and has at least 5 or six small jobs, like food delivery, mild and news paper delivery etc and also she teaches martial arts to kids at a centre.
She is really cute and lovable person. And is really easy going. But because she works really hard to gain money she gains our respect along with love.


Choi Han-gyul : The son of a wealthy home. His parents own a Coffee powder company. Event hough his family expects him to take over their business he has no interest in it and want to make toys. He is never really serious about his life until he meets Eun-chan and don't want to settle down in his life and want to just drift around and have fun. He is 29 year old, and his parents are forcing him now to get married.

Choi Han-syong : The older cousin brother of Han-gyul. Han-syong is a music director and has a very warm and caring personality. He is kind of a perfect husband material type who will always be faithful to his wife of girl-friend, and will love the one person in his life sinisterly and will take care of the person with warmth and care.

Han Yoo-Ju : She had been Han-syong's girlfriend for the past 10 years. She was in college with Han-syong and about the same age as him. She is a painter and loves her work a lot. She is a confident yet warm young woman who wants to do well in her life and career. And since her love for work puts her in positions where she has to chose between life and work she is often undergoing difficult time in her love life and so on.
And even though she is Han-syoung's girlfriend, and older than him, Han-gyul has a long time one-sided love for her, which always remains unrequited.

Hwang Min-Yeop : This guy is really loveable, coz of his innocent stupidity  He has a lot of strength, but little smartness. So he is often nick-named gorilla by his friends. He is in love with Eun-chan's younger sister. And later he becomes the waiter at the coffee prince cafe.

Jin Ha-rim : Han-gyul's old younger friend.He is a total player and tries to hit on every pretty girl. But he is good at heart. He later on becomes the waiter at coffee prince cafe. Even though his parents run a big hospital he doesn't want to take it on. He just enjoys life having fun and flirting and fooling around. He is really found of Eun-chan.

Noh Sun-ki : the wafle chef at the Coffee Prince cafe. He is half Japanese and has a mystic and mature air about him. And without wonders girls are crazy over him. But his past and his life is still a bit mystery. This guy gives out an aura of a bit cold-heartness coz of his indifference nature but when looked closely we see his is really dependable. So in total makes him a really desirable kind of personality.

Hong Gae-shik (Manager Hong) : He was originally the manager of the Coffee Prince cafe. But since his girlfriend left him for another man, long time back, he has stopped caring for the cafe, and the cafe had fallen to loss, until it is reformed by Han-gyul. He is a man in his 40s and likes to lead a sloppy pig like life, and doesn't believe in hygiene and cleanliness.
But he is really found of Eun-chan and she is like a daughter to him.

Go Eun-sae : Eun-chan's younger sister who is at the final year of high-school. She wants to be a pop singer and want to be famous and also to help her family by the money she will get from it, just that she doesn't have enough talent for being famous yet. She constantly rejects Min-yeop who stalks her innocently declaring  his love for her. She has worries for being poor and often gets mad at her sister but she loves her family all the same.

Sulljja/Terry : Choi Han-syong's dog. Even though he is just a dog, he plays a major role in this drama, and has a really prominent presence. The dog's name that his owner gave is 'Terry', but Eun-chan who delivers milk to Han-syong's house got friendly with the dog, and names him 'Sulljja' meaning 'sweeper', because she doesn't know his real name. Sulljja is a reason why Eun-chan and Han-syong comes closer.





Story Line :

Go Eun-chan is a girl who looks like a boy and is always mistaken to be a boy.Since her father died young she has to be the bread winner of the house and hence do all small small jobs. Han-gyul, the son of rich parents comes back to Korea.
At the same time, Yoo-ju, who had left her boyfriend for 8 years Han-syong, has come back after two years. She is sorry that she left Han-syong, and even though Han-syong still loves her intentionally, he can't just accept her back because she has hurt her badly.
Eun-Chan, see Han-gyul as she comes to deliver food to his home, and leaves without him noticing her. But they meet again, when Min-yoep, Eun-chan's sister's suitor, snatches handbag of Yoo-ju. Eun-chan catches Min-yeop but when she see it is Min-yeop, and when he says he stole money to pay Eun-sae's fee, Eun-cna lets him escape. And this gets noticed by Han-gyul and he accuse that Eun-chan and Min-yeop had planned the robbery act to get some money as reward. Han-gyul has mistaken Eun-chan as a boy. The accusation agitates Eun-chan and she leaves without taking any money.
Eun-chan and Han-syong becomes friends because of the dog and so on. They get along well with each other, and Han-syong doesn't mistake Eun-chan as a girl.
Han-gyul's grandmother is forcing him to get married and is planning to send him to matchmaking meetings with various girls.
Mean while Yoo-ju and Han-syong gets together as a couple.

Since Eun-chan's financial situations are bad, she decieds that money is bigger than pride and decides to ask money from Eun-gyul. She goes to meet him, where he ends up insulting her parents, and for this she stalks him for the entire day demanding apology, while Han-gyul is meeting all the girls his grandmother send him. When Han-gyul is fed up meeting girls, he makes a plan. He ask Eun-chan to be his fake 'boyfriend'. (He still think Eun-chan is a boy). And since she is getting good money, Eun-chan agrees on this and like this the fake gay boyfriends acts starts. And one day Han-gyul ends up kissing Eun-chan, but that incident pass off. But Han-gyul and Eun-chan becomes friends soon.
That is when Han-gyul's grandmother throws a challenge at him and ask him to renovate 'Wanjja Cafe' which right now looks like a dump. And since 'Wanjja cafe' is a place where Eun-chan hangs out a lot, she ask Han-gyul, who is against his grandmother's wishes, to renovate it and let him lep with it. Somehow, Eun-chan affects Han-geul and he decides to renovate the cafe and run it for a while.

And thus all of them come together, Han-gyul, Manager Hong, Eun-chan, Ha-rim, Min-yeop and Sun-ki. The Coffee Prince team. 'Wanjja Cafe's name is changed to English title 'Prince cafe' and Han-gyul says that only men will be hired there. And so, Eun-chan ask Manager Hong to keep the fact of her being a girl as a secret. He agrees.

Like this the cafe starts.

And then, slowly Eun-chan and Han-gyul's friendship is getting more close and intense. Eun-chan slightly is jealous of Yoo-ju, but she doesn't know her feelings are love yet. But then as her friendship with Han-syong also is getting really close, she falls for Han-syong... but soon finds out that Yoo-ju is Han-syong's girlfriend, and her hear breaks.
Eun-chan recovers from the heartbreak, and then slowly really slowly falls for Han-gyul instead  Han-gyul is also really found of Eun-chan. But he thinks Eun-chan is a girl. So when his heart starts to have feelings towards Eun-chan he is really confused.

He doesn't want to be a gay, and hence he tries to do everything to avoid his feelings. He tries to avoid Eun-chan, he tries to make her his younger brother, and deviate the love in him to brotherly love. But nothing works. He just ends up falling in love with the person he thinks to be a guy.

He despicably tries to be rude with Eun-chan and avoid him and insult him, but at last his feelings takes control of him. And he goes and kiss Eun-chan and says he likes him and he doesn't care if he is a guy.

Now Eun-chan tries to tell people that he is a girl, but that ends in bad way and Han-gyul gets angry. Han-gyul feels betrayed, and they break up and both suffer through a bad time.

But in the end they get back together, and life goes on.

There is not much story after that except lovely sides of  love that makes us fall in love with the show. There is a lot more episodes after that and an a few small story lines, but that is just too hectic to explain, since they are simple story lines.

Actually the story is not much that of a big thing. It's in whole is just a simple story. But the way it is told...it's like magic. Totally magic. Speechlessly magical.

And seriously I started to wonder how can a love story be so cute and lovable and totally out of the world lovable. The way it's told makes us feel like we are dissolving in the cuteness of the whole thing.

If you miss this show, that would be a total waste. So please try to catch it somewhere ok. It's something that will stay forever in your mind as a sweet memory even after you have finished watching it.
