Comments on Movie: Epic (2013)
"Although this adventure's premise will appeal to children, and the child within us, the film itself is far too simplistic to be a classic." - Rich Cline, Contactmusic.com.
"Visuals are enthralling enough for little and big folks to offset a predictable, albeit sweet, story." - Claudia Puig, USA Today.
"Beautifully animated forest fantasy for undemanding families." - Bruce Bennett, Spectrum.
"This woodland fairy tale is not nearly as Epic as the title would suggest." - JimmyO, JoBlo.
"Marks an achievement of note, though not of honor: it is the most beautiful boring movie ever made." - Steve Biodrowski, Cinefantastique.
"Gorgeous visuals as usual but this is truly misleading; an injustice and this film doesn't live up to its title." - Rosalyn Lim.

Epic (2013) is a 3D animated fantasy adventure based on The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs by William Joyce. When Mary Katherine "M.K." found a dying nature spirit, Queen Tara, she is transported into their world to help the Leafmen to save the forest from the evil beings.
Epic (2013) Synopsis
From the creators of ICE AGE and RIO, EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle between the forces of good, who keep the natural world alive, and the forces of evil, who wish to destroy it. When a teenage girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she teams up with an elite band of warriors and a crew of comical, larger-than-life figures, to save their world… and ours.'
Movie Review: Epic (2013)
M.K. and her father.
Another eco-friendly film from Blue Sky Studios, Epic (2013) is certainly not something I expected. At first I am not delighted to watch its contemporary elements because I thought this film would set in a medieval times. Never mind that but the first quarter or half horribly failed to captivate and it is too boring to bear so I dropped it and re-watch it a week later in a better mood.
Queen Tara.
In the end, it actually has a pretty interesting concept but I strongly dislike the fact that they name this film epic because it is nothing close to that word. Epic means very great or impressive or heroic/grand in scale or character; if you watch this you will understand how I feel. Gorgeous visuals as usual but this is truly misleading; an injustice and this film doesn't live up to its title.
PS. Love their voice casts though.

Epic (2013) Movie Quotes
Thanks to Springx2 for the movie transcript!
- If I don't do this today, there won't be a future to protect.
- I'm not a kid anymore and I'm tired of you treating me like one.
- I'm trying to help you, trying to look out for you.
- Why do you have security cameras, anyway? Do people around here... steal old newspapers?
- Well, your mother had a wonderful sense of humor. But I'm not delusional.
- Didn't you ever wonder why it was so hard to swat a fly?
- My theory is, they're actually living faster. Like in a different dimension. So no matter how fast we think we are, to them, we're just big and dumb and slow.
- You know what, just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it's not there.
- I have to catch these things in the moment, while they're happening, otherwise, you miss a chance that could be gone forever!
- You're missing a chance right now! Are you even listening?
- Look, you've got to believe me. I am so close; all I need is one little breakthrough. This could be it!
- I will clear this all up when I get back. I promise.
- Sure, Dad. I'll be here. In reality.
- Ozzy! Stop! Play dead! How are you so fast on three legs?
- Mom, can I be queen when I grow up?
- She's coming! Don't do anything to embarrass me, or it could ruin my chances of being a Leafman.
- Sometimes the biggest one isn't the best one.
- You're stealing my moves, kid!
- You need a doctor.
- It's the life of the forest.
- That's a big bug.
- I'm not sure why the queen brought you here either, but she gave you that pod so you're gonna have to come with me.
- Make me big!
- Uh, you know what? I don't do magic. You can talk to Nim Galuu about that. He might know something.
- We keep it moist. Moist is what we do.
- We agreed that you would lose, but then you win.
- Now, I can't help it if I'm fast. You want me to lose, you gotta give me some better competition.
- It's called teamwork. Maybe if you understood that the Leafmen wouldn't have kicked you out.
- They did not kick me out. I quit.
- I didn't ruin all of it. I let you hit him.
- The old reverse psychology. Make me feel guilty; get me to beg you.
- Actually, you know what? I'm going to make some lunch and I'll tell you all about it.
- What, you've never seen a Boggan? Someone had a happy childhood.
- Do you and me have a problem?
- There's a code amongst men. It goes something like this: I saw her first.
- You think she'd want you? Look at yourself.
- You know you're not insulting me, right? You're just grossing me out.
- I was frog-marched here at spearpoint.
- We're all individuals, but we're still connected. It's what we live by.
- I know rumors have been flying but the truth is never as bad as it seems.
- I have just returned from deep inside this tree, from the Rings of Knowledge... where every memory, every event that ever happens in the forest, is recorded in these scrolls.
- Magic might be stretching it. I'm charismatic. Possibly charming.
- You don't understand. I have to get home. This has nothing to do with me.
- You're here for a reason. Maybe you don't see the connections yet. But just because you don't see them doesn't mean they're not there.
- Tara wouldn't want us to mourn. She'd want us to celebrate her life and the life of the forest!
- Look, I'm thinking that I didn't make the best first impression.
- It's okay. I've never had a guy fight a mouse for me before.
- Put your arms around me.
- But I barely know you.
- Fruit fly, huh? So, uh, what's it like having such a short life cycle?
- It's great, mister. When I grow up, I'm going to... wish I had done more with my life, sonny.
- Excuse me, but I've lost something very dear to me. It was left by a friend who's no longer with us.
- Do you ever think about anyone besides yourself?
- I can't believe it. He's been crashing around the forest like a bear for years. Most stompers just come and go, but this guy's relentless.
- You know, like us, but big and dumb and slow, always stomping on things.
- This one is obsessed with finding us.
- He only finds what we want him to find.
- We've got him looking everywhere but where we are.
- Try it again. Maybe she'll punch you harder.
- Let's go. You can't stay. You're with us now.
- I'll come home soon, Dad. I promise.
- Their heads are like rocks. Uh, uh... smart rocks.
- I'm going to make sure nobody follows you.
- Don't worry, you get the easy part. I get the fun part.
- When I get big again, I am so coming back here with a can of bug spray.
- I'm afraid you'll find getting out is a lot harder than getting in.
- I'm not leaving without you.
- Do you know what this means? We single-handedly saved the forest!
- We're outnumbered, out of time, and the fate of the world is at stake.
- You don't even know what you're saying. I'm saying, who gives up everything for a world that's not even theirs?
- Dad. My dad does. I have to get my dad!
- They're all right about me, Ozzy. All these years, just chasing things that aren't even there.
- All I want now is to find my daughter!
- No one is alone. Not even him.
