A Wild Patience - Indie Animated Shorts by Women
Sunday, May 29, 17:15 Naxoshalle Kino (buy tickets)
For this year’s Nippon Connection (May 24-29, 2016) I have curated a selection of films by women animators. It used to be a rarity for women directors to feature on animation programmes but in recent years, they have become a force to be reckoned with on the indie animation scene. This selection of rare and new animated shorts celebrates some of Japan’s most innovative women animators from indie pioneer Sayoko Kinoshita, co-founder of the Hiroshima International Animation Festivalto up-and-coming young artist Chihiro Sato.
Germany-based animator Maya Yonesho will be on hand at the screening for a short Q+A. Many thanks to Florian Höhr with his assistance in putting this programme together.
