Nasu is just around 180 km away from Tokyo. How about giving yourself a different trip like travelling to Nasu where you can enjoy healing hot springs and fresh air!

01. Beautiful Nature
Nasu is located in Tochigi Prefecture which is in the north part of Tokyo. Nasu is surrounded by green nature in spring and summer, autumn leaves in autumn and snow in winter! It is a nice destination no matter which seasons you visit.
02. A hot spring that has 1380 years history
Hot springs in Nasu are famous in Japan. Many Japanese come here for the hot springs too. So how can you miss that?
03. Unique Experience
In Nasu, you can have different kinds of craft experience, like making dried flowers, pottery, silverware, jewelry with natural stones etc. You can also have a close contact with animals!
From Tokyo to Nasu
By shinkansen, it takes about 1 hours from JR Tokyo Station to JR Nasushiobara Station. (Fare: 5,390 yen one way)

The JR TOKYO Wide Pass is a discounted pass for unlimited rides in Tokyo and the surrounding Kanto area. Valid for three days, the pass is good for unlimited rides using reserved seats on ordinary cars on Shinkansen, limited express and other trains in the valid use area. The JR TOKYO Wide Pass makes it easy to visit popular tourist destinations such as Mt. Fuji, Izu and Karuizawa, GALA Yuzawa.

Transportation in Nasu
Once you arrived in JR Nasushiobara Station, you can find the bus terminals where hotel shuttle buses are parked. (Left)
Since there is no local trains in Nasu, we recommend you to rent you own car to travel in Nasu. Big car rental shops like NISSAN Rent-a-Car is located right in front of the station too.

02. Sessho-seki (The Killing Stone)
Just from the name of this place, you can tell it is a very special place to visit. Actually it is one of the must-visit sightseeing spots in Nasu.
Legend of the Mysterious Killing Stone
It was said a long time ago, there was poisonous gas leakage in this area, and many people and animals were killed. That's why it was called the Killing Stone. Don't worry, it's totally safe to visit this famous spot now!
For those who follow our blog must have seen the story of the Killing Stone in our earlier blog. It was said that the village was haunted by a spirit of a nine-tailed fox, until a Buddhist priest came and performed certain spiritual rituals. He turned the spirit into the Killing Stone and built 1000 Buddhist monk statues to bring back peace to the village.

03. Bakery & Cafe PENNY LANE

They make more than 60 different kinds of bread every day. So you need to come here a few times to try them all! By the way, don't miss their bread bowl!

04. Mt. Nasudake
A famous active volcano in Kanto area!
You can see the red colored leaves on the mountain. What a beautiful scenery!
There is an easier way to climb up Mt. Nasudake. You can take the cable car and get to the top of this famous active volcano!
The cable car is spacious and the window are huge!! Just feel free to look around during the cable ride. Enjoy the 360-degree view of Nasu Kogen!
Actually the Nasu ropeway can only take you to a spot near the top of the mountain. From the station to the summit, you still need to take a 40-50 minutes walk!

This famous traditional hot spring was found 160 years ago, and it is located in a remote part of the mountain!
Once you step into the building, the interior looks just like an old drama set. That's because this building was built in Edo period. After all these years, it is still being used by the Japanese!
Even the Japanese movie, Thermae Romae, was shot in Kita Onsen!!
At Kita Onsen, you can experience the old style of Japanese hot spring where men and women can share the hot spring together.
