A Werewolf Boy (Korean Movie)

A really really sweet love story.
Though the ending was a bit disappointing, the whole ride of the story is so sweet that you will feel like watching is again and again. No wonder that it was the most hit romantic film recently. The characters are just so cute and sweet. And the romance so pure and innocent and gentle....
There is much detailing to the film. As I have said earlier in the review of 'The Nice Guy', Song Joong Ki is such a brilliant actor. So it's just hard to believe that it's Song Joong Ki acting as Cheol Su. It just doesn't feel like him. He is so natural that it just feels like it's Ceol Su, and that it is some Wolf boy who acted for this movie.
Each slightest move of him is like a puppy dog or something. Lovable and cute...
I think the best scene in the movie is where Cheol Su follows Su Ni after she finish bathes, to her room door, and whines like a puppy when she closes the door making him say outside. That whine was such a nice detail. It added a lot of sweetness to the whole thing... The same way a puppy wines if you leave it outside the door.
Also the detail where Chol Su pats Su Ni's head when she finishes singing. The feeling of wanting to convey his awe and love in any way he know was so clearly and cutely shown... And he likes it when she pats his head. So he returns the gesture. That was so cute innocent and... brilliantly written.
I am still too surprised that how does Korean Movies manage to show romance so deeply and innocently... It's like magic. We just get captured by it...
I do wish if this Movie had a much more happy ending though... They made us fall in love with Cheol Su and Su Ni so much that it hurts when they have to get separated. It just feels unfair that they gets separated. If they have to separate the characters, then the writer and director shouldn't have made us viewers fall in love with Cheol Su and Su Ni so much. These two youngsters make us love them so much and then...
But One thing is good though... That since it is a flashback story, we know from the start that these two will get separated... So that is half ok...
Story line :
An elderly lady Kim Su Ni who lives with her family in USA gets a call from Korea saying she has to come to Korea to sell a property that had come to her name, a house where she has stayed for some time when she was young. Su Ni goes to Korea and Su Ni and her granddaughter Eun Ju, goes to that house. And Su Ni tells Eun Ju her story...
47 years ago, Su Ni, when she was about 17 or 18 years old, came to live in that house in the country side along with her family. Su Ni at that time had a lung problem and had to get country air because of that. The house that they lives in had belonged to a scientist before, who used to do tests on dogs and wolfs.
On their first night there Su Ni goes to the shed in front of the house, after hearing a voice and see something in the dark that gives her a scratch and run off. Next morning Su Ni and her mother discover a boy hiding near the shed. Su Ni can't be sure if he was what she saw the last day. Su Ni's mother take the boy in to house and feed him and report to police and all.. But the police leave saying that there are a lot of orphans because of war. The mother decides to find some facility for the boy and to let him stay with them till they get anything...
But the boy behaves so wild and is in tattered clothes and doesn't speak. He just behaves more like a dog or a wolf. Mother cleans him and put him in new clothes and all. But he eats so wildly that Su Ni can't get along with him. But Su Ni gets less scared by the boy when he rescues her from Ji-Tae, a boy who is Su Ni's dad's friends's son, who claims himself to be Su Ni's future husband.
Mother names the wolf boy 'Cheol Su'. Su Ni decides to train Cheol Su in order for her to be able to eat properly at meal times. She try to trail him using the dog training manual. And that technique works. Cheol Su especially likes to get pats on his head after he does something correctly.
Since Cheol Su also want to study writing, Su Ni teaches him that also...
While training like this, Su Ni gets attached to Cheol Su a lot... She doesn't want to part with him now.
But one night when Ji Tae attacks Su Ni, Cheol Su transforms to half a wolf and attacks Ji Tae and his friends. Ji Tae tells this to Su Ni's family and says Cheol Su is dangerous and locks Cheol Su up. He then goes and calls some partners of the scientists who owned the house before and who made Cheol Su. They come to the house to look if Cheol Su is a danger to the humanity and if he is, then to kill him...
Cheol Su and Su Ni are forced apart by the situations...
The ending was a bit too sad. Not touching... Some sad endings are touching. This just felt a bit cruel towards the viewers. I mean, Su Ni could have come back to search for him some time, right??? Why didn't she...
But this movie can't be put down just because of a bit disappointing ending... Because it is that good. :-)
