Miss Granny (Korean Movie)

You know when something is so good that you really can’t describe t using any words… ‘Miss Granny’ is leaving me without any words to say about it.
It’s totally fun, absolutely good. Entertaining and touching at the same time. Go see it already. Don’t waste time even reading this review. Just see the movie. If you have seen it already see it again. Because it’s something we can watch over and over again and still laugh and cry.
Supper funny. Great acting by Shim Eun Kyung. And super rocking songs.
Still not getting enough words to praise this movie. Just too good.

Story Line :
An old lady, Oh Mal-Soon, lives with her son and family, and runs a café for elderly people. She had had a rough past when her husband passed away within one year of marriage, and she had to raise her son alone without a proper job, and money. But despite that, her son is successful now and she is all so proud about her son. But Grandma Mal-soon is getting really prickly as she gets older and she is shouting at everyone. Especially at her ill, daughter-in-law. One day, as her daughter-in-law gets a heart attack, and the doctor advises that she should not take any stress, the family starts to think about sending Grandma Mal-soon to a nursing home for elders.

As Gandma Mal-soon is really sad over this, she goes to take a photograph at a studio that she finds across the street. After she takes the photo she mysteriously regains her appearance from when she was 20 years old. Grandma is really confused and worried at first to be a 20 year old girl. But soon she gets used to it, and decides to live as that 20 years old girl from now on.

She changes her name to Oh Do Ri (Derived from her favorite actress ‘Audrey Hepburn name. Audrey – OhDuRi), and lives in a boarding house run by her old friend, Mr. Park. Mr. Park was used to be a servant at Grandma Mal-Soon’s house, when they both were teenagers. And he is still devoted to Grandma Mal-Soon and thinks so highly of her. He is the one most sad when Grandma Mal-soon is found missing.
Grandma Mal-soon’s grandson, Ban Ji-Ha plays in a band, but their vocal walks out after fighting and the band is left with no Vocal. That is when Ji-Ha hears Oh Do Ri singing, he gets charmed by that song and ask Oh Do Ri, if she could sing for his band. He doesn't have any idea that Oh Do Ri is in fact his grandma. And Oh Do Ri’s singing had been noticed by a TV Station producer too. Soon Grandma Mal-Soon/Oh Do Ri, starts to make a big mark on the world with her superb singing…

The movie of full of humor and there are times when you can’t stop laughing. There are many nice elements in the story like the pink haired guy in the bus, and Ban Ji-ha’s name meaning ‘Semi Basement’, and Mr. Park’s deep adoration for Grandma Mal-Soon, and the way Mr.Park calls even the old Grandma Mal-soon – Aggashi(meaning ‘young miss’), because of his old servant days history…

And the entry of Kim Soo Hyun at the end was a really nice touch. Totally unexpected and hence really a good turn.
The song ‘if you got to L.A.’ is so good that you feel like jumping when you hear that. The song ‘Rain drop’ leaves you feel like you are standing in rain, and we can’t help but to cry while watching the song ‘White Butterfly’.

The only thing I felt as a bit of a bummer was that the climax song could have been a bit better. The song ‘One more time’ is okay, it grows on you as you hear it more than once, but it sort of fails to get a great climax effect in the first go. So that song just felt a bit bland after every other rocking song in the movie. That was the only down side of the movie. Else it was a 100% perfect. It still is 100% perfect. Because all the other super good sides makes this slight down side microscopically negligible.
And there is nothing much to say about this movie that it’s totally, totally and absolutely worth a watch.

My Ratings of this Movie  : 11/10
