A very good film from the internationally acknowledged Iranian director Majid Majidi.
Well, technically it's a serious film. But it's one of the best romantic films I have seen. And hence can come under Lilac Reel.
Technically and presentation vies this film is a film par excellence And have bagged a few awards. The story tells the reality of Afghan Even though this is a reality film, and might be serious and real, this film is something that can be enjoyed by even normal audience.Even the people who thinks that art films are boring will like this film because of it's refreshing story, well even though, the story ends in a disappointing ending.
So, everyone there, please don't degrade this film just because this is a reality art film, and not exactly made for entertainment. This is a romantic film that you should not miss.
Story line : The movie is set in the resent times when a lot of Afghan refugees live in the outskirts of Tehran. Latheef a 17 year old boy is one among them. He is a happy go lucky person, and his job is to serve tea and prepare food in a construction working site run by Memar.
One day, Najaf, a worker falls down while working in the construction site, and breaks his leg. Next day, another worker, Solthan, brings a 14 year old boy Rahmat to the site, and tells that he is Najaf's son, and he can take his father's job, because their house is too poor and needs at least one working person.
Since Rahmat seems too young and weak, and also because he has genuine need to work and earn wages, Memar feels sorry for him, and appoints him to make tea and cook food for the workers.
Since this job was Latheef's job, and because he is transferred to more tiring jobs of construction since Rahmat got his job, Latheef insistently dislikes the new comer Rahmat, and begins to pester him and pours things over his head and all.
But soon Latheef discovers that Rahmat is actually a girl. Since girls are not allowed to work, and since Najaf's house desperately need some money, Najaf's daughter is pretending to be Najaf's son Rahmath and working there.
Latheef starts to help Rahmath in every move from that day onwards...
The story fights strongly about how girls are not allowed to work in Iran, and also how living conditions are bad for the people there, and how poor the people are. The message is passed to the world that they should be helped with for attaining a strong and healthy living conditions.
The film touches our soul. It clearly leaves a mark and makes us feel sympathy and empathy. The reflection of real Iran is something that will leave us feeling a bit bad about this world. Well that is what makes every great film a great film.
But as I said earlier, this film is not just a real world serious art film (which it is), but also a really lovable romantic film and can be enjoyed by any normal audience. :-)
So make sure to catch this movie.
My Ratings of this Movie : 10/10
