The Adventure of Sudsakorn (1979) at a glance
The first animated feature originated from Thailand, The Adventure of Sudsakorn (1979) is directed by Payut Ngaokrachang whose eyesight become crooked, nearly blind due to the intensity of the work. He did all the drawings, design and layout, and made the equipment himself from the junk of World War II military surplus. Based on the 30,000 line epic Phra Aphai Mani written by Sunthon Phu, it is also the only traditional animated feature ever made in Thailand.
The Adventure of Sudsakorn (1979) Synopsis
Based on the epic "Phra Aphai Mani" written by Sunthon Phu, The Adventure of Sudsakorn (1979) tells the heroic adventure of the son of a minstrel prince and a beautiful mermaid, Sudsakorn. His many encounters including fighting animals, ghosts and demons, and taming sharks and dragon-horse has proved that Sudsakorn is no less of a gifted child.

Movie Review: The Adventure of Sudsakorn (1979)
Sudsakorn goes on an adventure with the dragon-horse he tamed.
The first traditionally animated feature in Thailand, The Adventure of Sudsakorn (1979) has aesthetically pleasing art direction and exquisite traditional music. It is creative and filled with plenty of endearing characters such as lovely animals, dancing flowers and sea creatures.
Mermaids in The Adventure of Sudsakorn (1979)
Although I do not understand most of the words said by the characters in the movie, it's easy to tell that intense efforts have been put to produce The Adventure of Sudsakorn (1979). From the visuals and animations to the characters and world creations, it's exceedingly detailed even by today's standard.
Sudsakorn's parents.
The story of this animated feature might be difficult to capture if we do not know the Thai language and the epic Phra Aphai Mani itself but still, the beautiful music and genuine emotions will give us a clue and it is quite an enjoyable watch!
Thai Mermaid!
It is truly a wonder that the director is able to produce this even though there is very little resources for this project; Mr. Payut Ngaokrachang deserve a lot of respect!
PS. I would want to meet this director someday and tell him I really liked his work if I could but he's not here anymore. :(
Movie Ratings
Will write a page regarding this and add this to all animated feature entries in the future.
People who love Thai folklores and mermaid related movies because they have very beautiful mermaids haha!

Sudsakorn's mother, a mermaid.
Call me biased, I really adore this beautiful mermaid who's Sudsakorn's mother because she is so beautiful *_* She also looks very kind and loving, as well as selfless! Like I've mentioned, I do not know most of the lines the characters said in this movie but I can tell that she was really devastated about her son's faith or something like that; she was so heartbroken and cried when Sudsakorn was taken away by the old wise man and owl for training and when he left for an adventure?!
PS. The dragon-horse is super adorable too!!
