Unboxing [UK]: Eden of the East - Complete Series & Movies: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray)

Eden of the East returns to the UK once again under a different distributor, and alongside it is a special collector's set for the fans and newcomers.

Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden) is a 2009 series animated by Production I.G and directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who worked on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The series gained a fair amount of attention and is known to be one of the best anime shows of the past decade. It eventually received two follow-up movies to conclude the storyline altogether.

The UK release was once handled by Manga UK under their collaboration with Funimation, but a few years ago the deal broke off and all of the sub-licensed titles had expired, including Eden of the East and its movies. Anime Limited eventually rescued the license but had only acquired the TV series when it was first announced. During MCM Comic Con London they eventually managed to acquire the Movies but as a result had to delay the production to author the discs.

The packaging for Anime Limited's release is very similar to the Funimation Premium Edition that was released in 2016. The contents are pretty much nearly identical, the US gets a paper mache of a dog and a certificate, while the UK has an exclusive 40 page booklet and different artwork for the box and slipcover. On-disc content will be the exact same as the Manga UK and Funimation discs, so this collector's edition is really geared towards newcomers or fans of the franchise only.

The collector's edition set includes the 11 episode TV series and the movies The King of Eden and Paradise Lost across four Blu-ray discs (two for TV, one for each film). The Air Communication OVA is included alongside the King of Eden disc. The discs include an English dub and original Japanese audio with English subtitles. Because the discs are the exact same as the Funimation version, the regions and subs carry over i.e. it is both UK & US compatible (A, B) and has unlockable subtitles.

Plot Synopsis (via All the Anime):
Akira Takizawa wakes up naked outside the White House with no memories. He's got a gun in one hand, a cell phone in the other, and doesn't know if he's a good guy or one of the worst. He doesn't remember the phone gives him instant access to ten billion yen and a woman who can make his most outlandish requests a reality. He doesn't recall his connection to the ongoing missile attacks terrorizing the Japanese people. Or the part he played in the sudden disappearance of 20,000 shut-ins. He doesn't even remember he's supposed to save Japan and will be murdered if he fails. Whatever it is he's tangled up in, Takizawa's definitely in deep and thats not even scratching the surface.
