Our last full day in San Francisco was filled with more city touring. We drove to the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge and ended up parking at Battery Marcus Miller. It was a bit further than the Welcome Center but saved us a lot of headache trying to find parking in that busy area.
It wasn't a long walk to the bridge and we enjoyed the scenery by the water. I must say the bridge photographs beautifully with its contrasting colours against the blue sky.
After the Golden Gate Bridge, we drove to the Dutch Windmill which is on the west end of Golden Gate Park. The west end is also bounded by Ocean Beach which was incredibly windy and had a very long coastline.
Driving into the park we stopped at De Young museum area, parked and walked around to see the Japanese Tea Garden and Botanical Garden. There is free parking inside the park which was great.
It was a relaxing afternoon spent in Golden Gate Park before going to Twin Peaks. Driving up to the top of Twin Peaks gave us a panoramic view of the city. One of the peaks was closed to climbing at the time. It was very windy at the top but the view was great!
Driving back down, we went to see the Painted Ladies. The Alamo Square Park side facing the Painted Ladies was being renovated at the time so it was a bit more difficult to capture all the houses together.
Our last top of the day was to Japantown. Roaming around the shops there made me miss my days in Japan!
For our half day left before flying home was spent in Berkeley. We had brunch at Crepevine and I also tried Philz Coffee next door. Next we drove through the UC Berkeley campus and I was pleased to see so many cherry blossom trees! We drove up Grizzly Peak Blvd and saw a superb view of the city.
We drove back to the airport, returned our rental car and flew out in the evening. What a great week in SF and Yosemite!
