After our surprise off-grid adventure in the forest late last night, it was as if the weather knew that we wouldn’t be returning to Yosemite National Park for our second day. It was raining cats and dogs the entire day. The only way back to the park was to drive 3 hours again on the off-road path and the 6 hour round trip didn’t seem worth it to us to see two more sights. Fortunately, in Day 2 we had visited most of the famous spots in Yosemite that were open in March.
This experience showed us that we really needed to do our research! When I asked the lodge owner about the flooded Highway 120, he said that it had been closed for weeks. Of course, he didn’t email us that information before our stay because we would have canceled our booking if we knew how treacherous it would be to reach this accommodation. However, I could have done more research myself on the Yosemite website on the road conditions to make sure our accommodation could be reached easily via another route. Learn from my mistake if you're travelling to Yosemite outside of the summer season.
We stayed in for the day and did some more research for the second part of our trip in San Francisco. We could have driven back toward the Bay Area instead of staying a day but I had already paid for two nights here so we used the time to relax.
